Superfood of the Week

This week's featured Superfood is broccoli, the nearest thing that broccoli resembles to my mind is it looks like small mushroom clouds, but that's slightly deviating from the subject, if you have never eaten broccoli before it is quite tasty, as long as you cook it for the right amount of time, broccoli has something within it called phytonutrients, these are an antioxidant, which help to protect cell membrane walls from damage against free radicals, which can lead to disease later on in life.

Research has found that the nutrients within broccoli are far more powerful than first perceived, what actually happens is these chemicals tell our genes to produce more natural enzymes which encourage the detoxification process,

In some study findings people who ate less vegetables such as broccoli were far more likely to have risks of cancer rather than those who ate a lot of vegetables over a weekly period.

A study was done in China where one part was quite heavily polluted, and the occupants lungs were somewhat stressed these were non-smokers essentially
it was found that the people who ate more vegetables in their diets were far less likely to contract lung cancer than those who didn't eat lots of vegetables,

When you're buying your broccoli organic is probably the better choice this will contain far more antioxidant properties, than normal ways of growing food will have, and is probably best to steam them lightly. Broccoli also has properties that aid in prevention of heart disease also, can aid in stomach health, also known to improve immune system function, is bursting with essential vitamins and minerals.
  • Vitamin C.
  • Vitamin K.
  • Vitamin a
  • Iron
  • Calcium
  • Zinc
  • Phosphorus
  • Magnesium
  • Protein
  • Potassium
And many more in a one cup serving broccoli contains only 43 calories so not only do you have you great health benefits, this is a great way to supplement your lifelong healthy eating.
